Telling Black Coming of Age Stories.

Black girl coming of age stories are lacking in quantity, humor, and nuance within the entertainment industry. When's the last time you watched any media of a Black girl coming of age in which the lead was a brown skinned or dark skinned Black girl in her teen/young adult life...and I want you to ask yourself: was there space created to laugh at the complexities of what it is to be a Black girl? There is a gap within the theatrical genre begging to be filled with stories of the absurd hilarity. Pain and resilience have a special place within the comedy sphere that I have the ambition of writing for the rest of my life. Small Antlers Matter is a one woman piece about Jordy the Reindeer, who similarly, is struggling with her identity and sexuality.

Fifth Floor Studios is a production company I run with my two friends, Wynton Jones and Dara Adedara. Together, we create Black stories surrounding love, friendship, and coming of age. In a world where we grew up feeling unrepresented, we want to lead the change in more Black youth seeing themselves in media.

Our first project, A Black College Show was written by me! It follows the lives of six Black college freshman trying to juggle their lives as freshman at a PWI. To watch more from Fifth Floor, go to Fifth Floor Studios on youtube and follow us on social media.
